DREMUN, once again, served as a unique platform for high school students from all over the Dominican Republic to fine-tune their public speaking, negotiation, critical thinking and conflict-resolution abilities. Organized by a committed team of students and representatives of Simulations For Learning, the highly academic event instilled in its participants curiosity for various pressing world issues. Assuming the rol of representatives of a certain country, the delegates from the participating institutions delved into the realms of the United Nations and other regional bodies. The simulation hosted 5 committees: the World Trade Organization, the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, the World Food Programme, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and a Joint Crisis Committee which discussed the Israel-Palestine conflict.

As customary, the annual event was held in the first-class Cap Cana campus of the Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE). During 2 days of intense debates, the delegates covered a myriad of topics ranging from regulating and reviewing sanctions on North Korea and Russia in NATO, to food shortages in the African Transition Zone and Sahel region in the World Food Programme. The event was attended by five educational institutions, Cap Cana Heritage School, The Ashton School, Saint Michael’s School, Saint John’s School and Inmaculado Corazón de María.

It’s not a surprise that the Dominican Republic says it “has it all.” Because the diverse Caribbean nation has something for everyone, whether you want to gorge on gourmet delicacies, scale waterfalls or discover its pre- and post-colonial history; take in a baseball game, hike a mountain or just lounge on some of the region’s greatest white-sand beaches. CJ Travel Editor Sarah Greaves-Gabbadon brings you the best Dominican Republic vacation for all sorts of travelers, and then check in to the places we recommend you stay when you get there.

Dominican Republic Vacation
On the island’s eastern tip, Cap Cana is a private community adjacent to Punta Cana’s airport. Completely self-sufficient, it has its own marina, Jack Nicklaus golf course, and even its own adventure park. But it’s the resorts along its three-mile white-sand stretch that draw foodies, seduced by the menus of almost 50 restaurants in the enclave, which serve up everything from tacos to imported steaks. Eden Roc at Cap Cana, arguably the best resort in the whole country, offers a luxurious base for your culinary exploration, with 34 suites and villas that come with their own golf carts for navigating the sprawling property; a club at Caletón Beach; and three superb restaurants of its own.

Dominican Republic Vacation
Sun and sea are served with sides of high-energy water sports and year-round tradewinds in Cabarete, a bohemian north-coast enclave set against a backdrop of emerald mountains that’s the perfect Dominican Republic vacation for the active traveler. Kiteboarders flock to Bozo Beach and Kite Beach, and surfers hang ten at Encuentro. And when you’re exhausted from your efforts, relax and recover at Millennium Resort & Spa, which has mod one- to three-bedroom condo-style suites; a beachfront restaurant, infinity pool and spa; and a Laurel Eastman Kiteboarding school on-site.

Dominican Republic Vacation
On the northeast coast, the peaceful Samaná Peninsula offers diversions for visitors who want to do it all. There’s humpback whale watching in the spring; the rugged trails and native birds of Los Haitises national park; as well as water sports and hiking opportunities galore. But because it also has several breezy beaches (the offshore isle of Cayo Levantado is a standout), this region suits those who want to do nothing at all. Either way, you won’t have to choose at the elegant boutique The Peninsula House in Las Terranas (the region’s original tourist hub). The hillside great house-style bed-and-breakfast is an oasis of subtle and sophisticated style, with antique reproductions in just six suites, a garden pool and its own beach club.

Dominican Republic Vacation
Founded in 1498, the DR’s capital of Santo Domingo is where the Americas’ first cathedral, hospital and university were built, and its well-preserved Zona Colonial is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. Recognized for its architecture, theater, opera and ballet companies, as well as several museums, it is also the home of the charming 24-suite Billini Hotel, where free breakfast and Wi-Fi; ‘round-the-clock concierge service; and a slick rooftop pool and bar make it a solid choice within walking distance of the city’s sights.

Dominican Republic Vacation
If you’re searching for miles of pristine white sand bordered by turquoise waters and leaning coconut palms, look no further than the Dom Rep’s most famous resort town, Punta Cana, where 20 miles of beachy east-coast bliss awaits. And the perfect PC perch has to be Tortuga Bay Hotel Punta Cana Resort & Club, whose 30 sophisticated suites and junior suites (designed by native son Oscar de la Renta) are serviced by solicitous concierges. Factor in 45 holes of championship golf; world-class dining and a Six Senses spa, and the sand is just the beginning of this leisurely but never boring Dominican Republic vacation.

News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. July 6, 2018: With temperatures sweltering across many U.S. states, it certainly seems like a great time for a beach vacation somewhere – especially in the Caribbean. Here are the best beaches in the Spanish Caribbean nations you should know according to TripAdvisor travelers.

1: Varadero Beach

Taking the number one spot for the Spanish Caribbean and second for the Caribbean region is Varadero Beach in Varadero, Cuba. Varadero Beach stretches almost uninterrupted for 13 miles along a shoreline framed by mangrove forests. Varadero is best known as a tourist resort town, with more than 20 km of white sandy beaches. Soak up the sun while sitting on the soft, white sand, enjoy long walks and cool off in the alluring blue water. Spot colorful aquatic creatures on snorkeling trips and join sailing charters to remote cays. Varadero also has natural attractions such as caves and a chain of easily accessed virgin cays. It is also a free port that possesses facilities for scuba diving, deep-sea fishing, yachting and other water sports. Sun loungers and palapas (thatched-roof umbrellas) are available to rent. Hotels also offer these facilities to guests free of charge. Many hotels have direct access to the beach. There is parking available, for a fee, for those arriving by rented car on day trips.

2: Bavaro Beach

Ranking at number 2 for the Spanish Caribbean island and 6th regionally, is Bavaro Beach in Bavaro, Dominican Republic. Bávaro is located in La Altagracia province, the easternmost province of the Dominican Republic and was developed together with the resort area and tourist region of Punta Cana, as a town for resort workers. As hotels started to rise along the east coast, north from Punta Cana, Bavaro itself became a center of services. This beautiful area has a high concentration of beaches with white sands and turquoise blue colored waters that are so beautiful that they seem unreal. Bavaro beach also has jungles of mangroves and coconut trees. A coral reef helps protect the beach. The resorts Barcelo Bavaro Beach and Palace Deluxe Resorts share a section of the Blue Bander. The Punta Cana International Airport is 20 kilometers away from hotels and hotel complexes.

3: Playa Paraiso

At third and seventh region-wide, is Playa Paraiso beach in Cayo Largo, Cuba. This beach has grown extremely popular with Playa del Carmen and Cancún daytrippers, as well as Tulum vacationers. Here you will find plenty of opportunities for snorkeling and scuba diving plus a few hammocks, lounge chairs and umbrellas to choose from that you can rent. For about 200 pesos (about $11), you’ll get a couple chairs, an umbrella and parking.

4: Flamenco Beach

Flamenco Beach in Culebra, Puerto Rico takes the fourth spot and 8th in the region. This is a public beach on the island of Culebra that is known for its shallow turquoise waters, white sand, swimming areas, and diving sites. It stretches for a mile around a sheltered, horseshoe-shaped bay. Playa Flamenco is a popular beach destination for both Culebra and Puerto Rico. The waters off Flamenco beach are home to species of parrot fish, blue tang, multiple species of wrasse and other Caribbean sea fish. Crustacean species such as Ghost Crab are also observed. Some 50,000 seabirds visit Culebra’s Flamenco Peninsula each summer to nest – mostly sooty terns and other migratory species. Summer visitors to Flamenco Beach are familiar with them as they often feed in the area in large numbers. One of the most distinctive views of the beach include two rusting carcasses of old Sherman Tanks that were left behind by United States Navy in 1975, when they left after using it as weapons testing ground for more than 30 years.

5: Playa Pilar

Ranking at fifth and 12th in the wider Caribbean, is Playa Pilar in Cayo Guillermo, Cuba. It is dubbed one of the most spectacular beaches in Cuba. This pristine beach is located at the north-western end of the island of Cayo Guillermo. It is about 1 km long and faces north and is known for its powdery white sand and shallow and calm waters that are perfect for swimming and water sports but there is natural shade at Playa Pilar. You can rent lounge chairs for 2 CUC per day and sunbeds for 10 CUC per day that comes with 3 drinks and palapas. A water sports center where you can rent many types of equipment is also located here.

6: La Chiva

La Chiva takes the sixth spot for the French Caribbean and ranks at 15th regionwide. It is located on Isla de Vieques in Puerto Rico and is voted as one of the best beaches in Vieques. The waters are a deeper turquoise with tones of navy blue on the horizon.  The first few stops on the west side of La Chiva beach are great spot for those who want the most solitude since most beach goers head to the other end to snorkel.

As you begin to walk to the east end of the beach, the color of the water gets lighter. By the time you get to the parking spot 15, the waters are crystal clear almost like glass on a clear day with no clouds. La Chiva Beach is great for snorkeling but bring lots of sunscreen. The best spots for snorkeling are along the rocky areas and near the small cay at the end of the road. Restrooms are available at the entrance of the Vieques National Wildlife Refuge. The roads leading to La Chiva are covered in gravel and you can travel here by scooter or car.  Stay off La Chiva Island as it is prohibited to enter this area.

7: Caracas Beach

Ranking at 7th for the French Caribbean and 17th regionally is Caracas Beach in Isla de Vieques, Puerto Rico.  Playa Caracas, previously known as ‘Red” Beach,’ is a family friendly beach accessible on the National Wildlife Refuge on the south side of Vieques along the Caribbean Sea.

The waters have beautiful tones of turquoise, and the sand is a very soft and light white coral.  The waters offer gentle waves offering fun for children wanting to do a little boogie boarding.  The beach is wide offering plenty of sand for families to spread out and have fun, on Sundays you may often find families playing beach volleyball. Facilities include gazebos for picnics. There aren’t many so get here early, especially on the weekends to grab one. Take bags with you for trash and kindly drop it on the trash bins provided.  There are no bathroom facilities at the beach, a short drive back to the entrance of the refuge you may use the bathrooms at the office of the Wildlife Refuge. Get here off Route 997. Caracas is the first beach on the refuge that can be accessed by car. Look for the sign and drive all the way down to the end of the road and enjoy.

8: Juanillo Beach

Rounding out the Best Beaches for the Spanish Caribbean list is Juanillo Beach in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, which ranks at 23rd in the wider Caribbean. It is actually located in a former fishing village on the east coast of the Dominican Republic but today is one of the region’s most desirable stretches of white-sand beach. Juanillo Beach is located in Cap Cana, about 15 minutes from Punta Cana International Airport by road. The easiest way to reach the beach is by taxi or on a catamaran ride from Punta Cana.

It is considered a hidden gem for its wide open, powdery soft, and lined with palm trees, which run from Cap Cana Marina to the Sanctuary Cap Cana Golf & Spa Resort. While open to the public, the beach is only accessible through Cap Cana Resort, making it a calm and quiet place to soak up some rays. Cabanas and loungers are available for rent along the beach but public restrooms are not available on the beach. Take your ID as you might need it when entering Cap Cana Resort.

Properties for sale in Dominican Republic
Properties for sale in Dominican Republic

When it comes to my mind the best place where I could live in a near future I always think in the Dominican Republic.

Living in this country for three years had made me open the eyes and realize many reasons why staying here forever could be possible.

There are properties for sale in the Dominican Republic that looks like a dream for people from countries where they barely see the sun or just enjoy the sun during summer. In the Dominican Republic you will find sun almost every day. Also, spaces here are bigger than anywhere, while in Spain my house would be 1,000 Sqft, here I could buy a house of 3,000 Sqft. And what about people: Dominicans are so nice, always smiling and ready to help you, even if they are not able to. Those would be one of the main reasons for buying a property here.

This magic island is growing fast. Many new projects are developing and Dominican Republic is expected to become the main destination of the Caribbean. Punta Cana International Airport is the second airport in the Caribbean. It offers direct flights from 28 countries and 96 cities around the world.

Properties for sale in the Dominican Republic are mostly offered in the touristic areas and Santo Domingo, the capital. Touristic areas are located in the north and East of the Island: Puerto Plata and Samana in the North, while Punta Cana, Cap Cana and Casa de Campo are in the East. The East of the Island is very safe. These tree destinations are gated communities with private security. Also highest luxury in island is located there finding best properties for sale in Dominican Republic.

In order of my preference I would say that Cap Cana is the perfect place to live during the working life, pre-retirement and of course to invest.

Cap Cana is a gated residential and hotel community, with its own security, which has the safest Marina in the Caribbean (in-land); the best golf course in Latin America and one of the best in the world (Punta Espada); the most famous beach of DR (Juanillo, with 5 km of white sand coral beach) and the most modern equine facilities.

Cap Cana has invested more than $ 1 billion in high-quality infrastructures, from roads to power generation with underground distribution (like fiber optic), hurricane-proof.

Its great natural beauty is surpassed by its unparalleled climate. The wind is always fresh because it comes from the East (from the sea) and creates a microclimate in which the vast majority of rains occur at dawn and temperatures remain stable between 22-27 degrees in winter and 26-32 degrees in summer.

There are 4 hotels including Eden Roc, a Relais Chateaux. In addition, Hyatt has begun the construction of two new hotels and so has Karisma.

There are more than 25 residential communities of beach, marina, golf and countryside, which are already consolidated, as well as more than 30 restaurants, numerous shops and several beach clubs. We can find really nice properties for sale, best in Dominican Republic,  all of them with very high standards of luxury and quality.

New developments are on the way and ready in the near future.  5 new residential developments have started construction (Il Lago, Iguanas Gardens, 7 Mares, Ocean 21 and Serenissima) as well as 17 new villas, which gives a good idea of the dynamism of the destination. Those properties for sale swing from $USD 250,000 up to $ USD 5,000,000.

Around Punta Espada Golf Course and Juanillo Beach you can find the top properties for sale in Dominican Republic: big luxury houses with gorgeous views towards the ocean in 7,000 sqf lots. Prices are over $10 million and average $15 million.

Punta Cana is another great community where you can find very nice properties for sale in Dominican Republic. It is also a gated community, with its own two golf courses ‘La Cana’ and ‘Corales’. La Cana Golf Club is a 27 holes golf course consisting of three nines; Tortuga, Hacienda and Arrecife. Designed by P.B. Dye, son of great Pete Dye, these courses combine the ocean and cute villas around their greens.

Tortuga and Arrecife showcase mid- average villas from $1.5 million to $4 million both ocean front or golf course front, while Hacienda which is farer from the beach, has developed new apartments.

Greatest Properties for sale in this area of the Dominican Republic are located in Corales, a great golf course designed by Tom Fazio. Most of them face the Ocean and the golf course which give them extra value. High standards and luxury finishes are common in this top Villas with prices starting at $3.5 million.

Casa de Campo is located in the South Coast, East of Santo Domingo, 50 miles from Punta Cana Airport. This gated community offers the wider range of properties for sale you can find in Dominican Republic, from small apartments to huge houses. Completely consolidated, owners are moving to Cap Cana to find fresh air, nouveauté and fun. Nevertheless, you can enjoy Pete Dye’s golf courses: most famous Teeth of the Dog, impressing Dye Fore and The Links.

So there are mainly three places to go if you want to find a property for sale in Dominican Republic: Casa de Campo, Punta Cana Resort and Cap Cana. And I would choose Cap Cana over the others

Properties in the Caribbean are more and more demanded as globalization and new technologies allowing work from home have increased exponentially the number of people living for long periods in warm zones. Making a review on the Caribbean Homes for Sale in a number of zones, Dominican Republic appears as the country absorbing most Real Estate investment.

Should you decide the acquisition of a property, first listen to your feelings and then to your reasoning. Feelings make you Google immediately Caribbean Homes for Sale just in case you can convince your reasoning that you deserve to enjoy winter in paradise.

Landing in a country as Dominican Republic and listening to your feelings is really “dangerous”. Hospitality, smiles and kindness appear intrinsic to the way of life of Dominicans so you metamorphose into a different being. From hard worker, responsible fellow and ambitious person, you discover new luxury: free time, no rush, good weather all year, beauty, friendship even with people you hardly know, comprehension and a long etcetera of small but important details really hard to find in big cities.

After your first impression of falling in love with the country and its people, you need to categorize the Caribbean Homes for Sale appearing in your search by geographical location, climate, security, privacy, views, size, typology, price, style, seniority, amenities and facilities in the zone. What seems a very hard work can be reduced to a minimum of parameters when aiming to just three gated residential communities in Dominican Republic: Casa de Campo, Punta Cana Resort and Cap Cana.

These Communities assure security (physical and legal), privacy, luxury, amenities and facilities, and offers different kinds of Caribbean Luxury Homes for Sale from one bedroom condo to 20 million dollar houses.

Casa de Campo is the eldest Community offering Caribbean Homes for Sale. After more than 70 years, its consolidation is notable and a big variety of homes are available. From affordable while quite old units needing refurbishing to astonishing ocean front villas close to famous Teeth of the Dog Golf Course, from top designer Pete Dye, same as Sawgrass Golf Course that we enjoy every year at The Players.

Altos del Chavon offers Caribbean Homes for Sale with amazing views over Chavon River where famous Apocalypses Now movie was filmed. Also Pete Dye made his chef d’oeuvre with Dye Fore Golf Course. Affordable apartments in 8th hole seem a nice alternative for those aiming to start with a small investment.

The Marina and its surroundings offer luxury apartments and other properties such as big houses with great gardens and swimming pool.

Punta Cana Resort is also consolidated but real estate is not the core business, more centered in the private International Airport of Punta Cana absorbing 65% of the traffic of the country: an enormous business. Nevertheless, Punta Cana Resort offers three typologies of Caribbean Homes for Sale.

Top class Corales, residence of Julio Iglesias, surrounded by Corales Golf Course hosting a PGA Tour tournament since 2018 and designed by greatest golf landscaper Tom Fazio, offers some great Caribbean Homes for Sale with classical architecture style, great ocean views and maximum privacy.

Tortuga and Arrecife offer medium range villas ocean front or close to the beach, around nice golf course designed by Pete Dye’s son, P.B. Dye who also designed Hacienda Golf Course where affordable apartments are offered as well as affordable villas farer from the beach.

Best Real Estate offering appears when arriving to Cap Cana. Just 5 minutes from Punta Cana International Airport, this emerging destination revitalized since 2015 is attracting a number of developers building different typologies from affordable apartments to gorgeous houses.

While many land owners are developing their own house, there are a number of Caribbean Homes for Sale in Cap Cana. Each location has its style, typology and grade of development. Buyers can receive advice from Dunamar Cap Cana, exclusive broker listing the whole inventory of properties on sale, and choose the best option to match their needs and preferences of views, location, proximity to facilities, price or typology.

carribean home for sale

Marina Cap Cana is the biggest in-land Marina in the Caribbean offering Homes for Sale for boat lovers as well as beach lovers. Marina design allows having your front beach home inside the Marina. Enormous apartments in Aquamarina, Founders or Fishing Lodge are complemented by cute 3 bedrooms villas in Ocean 21, 4 or 5 bedrooms in Villas Marina or astonishing mansions in the Marina Islands.

Juanillo Beach extends for 3.5 miles of white sand made of coral (never burn your feet) spotted with palm trees. It’s perhaps the only place in the Caribbean where no Home is for Sale. Only big lots for just one house each can be bought while existing big mansions are only for owners use, or vacation rentals in very few occasions.

Los Establos is the greatest new equestrian facilities ever seen, including polo, races, jump, pasofino, dressage and any other existing variety. A new development of Caribbean Polo Homes started January 2018 and is already for sale. Ranches of few acres are also for sale, prepared with all luxury facilities that any horses’ lover might imagine.

Punta Espada Golf Course is named best golf course in all Latin America. A Jack Nicklaus Signature with 8 ocean front holes and views to the ocean front 9 more holes. Punta Espada hosted the Champions Tour since 2008 to 2010 with Fred Couples victory and course record as main noted fact. Best golf player ever, Jack Nicklaus made his best course in the Caribbean in 2006 and is ending his second golf course in Cap Cana (Las Iguanas). He also developed Golden Bear Lodge apartments with amazing views to Las Iguanas golf course and the ocean.

Around Punta Espada and Caribbean ocean, multiple homes are for sale. Las Palmas presents affordable villas around holes 6, 7 and 8. Punta Cayuco showcases a number of higher end villas along 5th hole and Punta Majagua along 3rd, while highest end houses border holes 9th, 11th and 15th, elevated more than 30 feet over course level with astonishing views to the ocean. Finally Caleton benefits not only of golf course holes from 11th to 17th but of Eden Roc Caleton Beach Club, an impressive cove operated by most luxurious hotel in Dominican Republic.

Once you fall in love with any of these astonishing Caribbean Homes for Sale, you need to appeal to your reasoning. Then you find high legal security, enormous tax exemptions, great communications from Europe and America, astonishing infrastructures such as airport, motorways, 100Mbps optic fiber and a number of facilities and amenities making your decision much easier.

Cap Cana, a sustainable develpoment

Cap Cana strongly believes in the wellbeing and safety of Dominicans and is actively engaged in the execution of philanthropic actions in situations that deeply affect our society. The company is committed to acting in benefit of society; social responsibility efforts lend support particularly to related causes of communities near Cap Cana supported by organizations as the Forjando un Futuro Foudnation, Colibrí Foundation, Latiendo por Ti Foundation and UNIBE’S Líderes del Mañana.

Cap Cana was built with the objective of being a sustainable development. Community planners and operators took wildlife habitat protection into account throughout the construction process and operating plan, environmental risks and liabilities were identified and reviewed as a part of overall risk management. Several green technologies were adopted since the construction phase:

Wildlife Protection
  1. Cap Cana actively engages in the conservation project of the Ridgway’s Hawk, promoted and encouraged in Dominican Republic by The Peregrine Fund. As part of this program, the nests are safeguarded, access to biologists and local technicians is prioritized for data collection and treating nestlings of the population that resides in Cap Cana, and periodical conservation training workshops are held for gardening and security personnel.
  2. The Ricordi iguanas found in the golf course area coexist with players, while their natural habitat adjacent to nearby streets are identified with crossing signage indicating drivers precautions should be taken.
  3. Scape Park in its excursions promotes the appreciation and conservation of the endemic and foreign flora and fauna that can be observed in their multiple nature trails. During these hikes you can admire: the spanish lime tree, the hutias, the Hispaniolan solenodon, the Ashy-faced owl ace and the Broad-billed tody.
  4. Cooperation with “CODOPESCA” in enforcing the conch and lobster ban, carrying out joint operations at the departure of fishermen.
  5. Marina Cap Cana is part of the Billfish Foundation under which billfish angling is under the catch and release conservation practices and part of the funds from fishing tournaments are donated to this international foundation aiming towards the Research and conservation of all billfish.
  6. Rescue of bee hives from areas where they could be exterminated. The hives are moved to areas dedicated to beekeeping where high nectar and pollen plants have been grown.
  7. During the sea turtle spawning season, the beaches are monitored at night and their nesting areas are preserved to help increase the turtle population.
Protection of the Air and its Quality:
  1. Cap Cana’s electricity generation is carried out with a Wärtsilä plant, the company’s technology focuses on energy efficiency and aims to reduce energy consumption and emissions as these are important in controlling climate change, Wärtsilä products comply with various environmental regulations. The efficiency of the Wärtsilä diesel and gas engines of the power generation plant that operates Cap Cana Caribe have a minimum emission of CO2 gases and very low noise levels.
Water Protection:
  1. Through the use of a geophone, the technicians of Aguas de Cap Cana inspect all water lines of Cap Cana and the water connections of vacant lots. In addition, Aguas de Cap Cana monitors the water consumption of large customers (hotels, golf courses, etc.), and upon any significant increase, they are notified of the anomaly for a quick regularization. This program provides an average savings of 3,000 cubic meters per month.
Habitat Protection:
  1. Instead of cutting trees that have taken decades to mature, they are transplanted for use as landscape in other areas.
  2. During its development, Cap Cana took precautions to protect the habitat, an example of this is the cliff path bordering a natural lake where the red-billed coots inhabit and the nesting grounds of the white herons.
  3. Cleaning and maintenance of beaches in optimum conditions, especially in times of turtle spawning.
  4. Cap Cana invests resources in the aerial monitoring of coal kilns on undeveloped land; These are reported to the authorities.
  5. Guidelines for palm pruning were recently established. These guidelines aim to improve the management of natural resources to reduce the amount of garbage generated by pruning, prolong the life and health of the palm trees and contribute to the reproduction of the birds that nest in these, since they are mostly endemic species.
  6. Marina Cap Cana has established “Green Rules” detailed below for the conservation of marine ecosystems, these rules are informed to all vessels that visit us:
The Dominican Republic protects endangered species. While in Dominican waters, please consider the restrictions established by the Law:
  • Respect the reproductive period of endangered species. The law establishes a ban for the lobster from March 1 to June 30 and for the conch from July 1 to October 31
  • Fishing for sea turtles and their eggs has been prohibited for the next 10 years.
  • Fishing for marine mammals such as manatees and humpback whales is also prohibited.
  • Parrotfish fishing and consumption are prohibited by law.
Recycling and Reuse of Waste:
  1. Heritage School has a collection center for recycling. At the Information and Sales center, glass bottles, magazines and plastic bags are donated to artisans in the community of Nuevo Juanillo and Veron who use them to produce wallets and household items.
  2. The equestrian area of Los Establos has a compost program to convert manure into fertilizer that is used in its facilities and marketed in the organic products market held on Sundays.
  3. Management of construction and remodeling waste such as metal profiles and wood, the latter are used for the production of bee hive boxes for the Cap Cana apiary as for beekeepers in the area who collaborate with the honeybee rescue program.
  4. Aguas de Cap Cana has implemented a wastewater reuse system for irrigation of the golf course

Hyatt Hotels disembark in Cap Cana

Hyatt announces the construction of 750 hotel rooms in Juanillo Beach, Cap Cana, an idyllic destination in the Caribbean, in the East of Dominican Republic, next to Punta Cana International Airport.

Playa Hotels & Resorts, owner and operator of all-inclusive resorts (including Hyatt’s Ziva and Zilara brands), will launch a new brand and be presented to the public next year.

Playa reached an agreement to operate resorts under an established lifestyle consumer brand. It will be the only publicly traded resort company, Wardinski said. The company maintains the name of Playa.
About $ 200 million will be used to launch the new brand, while the rest will go to renovate existing complexes as well as further expansion, including the construction of a 750-room Hyatt Ziva-Hyatt Zilara complex in Cap Cana, which forms part of the Dominican Republic Punta Cana tourist area. Currently, Playa owns and operates 13 resorts totaling nearly 6,200 rooms in the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Mexico.
Founded in 2006, Playa had owned and operated resorts under the Barcelo brand and AMResorts’ secrets and dreams brands until 2013, when it reached an agreement with Hyatt to rewrite six resorts under the new Ziva and Zilara brands.

“There are amazing opportunities in the all-inclusive segment,” said Wardinski, who will continue to oversee the company with its leadership team.

Dominican Republic grows by over 6.5% in 2016 for the third consecutive year

Dominican Republic grows by over 6.5% in 2016 for the third consecutive year.Inflation continues to remain below 3%

The Dominican Republic will grow by over 6.5% in 2016, according to data from the Central Bank, after making it to 7.6% and 7.0% respectively in 2014 and 2015. The country accumulates 10 years with an average growth of 4.8%.

The good news are that this growth is accompanied by controlled inflation below 2% despite the rise in the price of oil. In 2015 inflation was only 0.8% lowering the 3% of the previous year, due to the fall in the price of fuels.

The moderate and constant devaluation of the peso against the US dollar allows us to boost productivity and give added security to the foreign investor. In the last 10 years, the average devaluation has been 3.8%, with 2.27% this last year 2016.

These macroeconomic data, accompanied by political and social stability, as well as favorable legislation, taxation and legal security, make the Dominican Republic one of the most attractive countries for foreign investment.

The climate that enjoys the East of the country, humid at night and sunny by day, with constant sea breeze, minimum annual temperatures of 21ºC and maximum of 32ºC, make residential tourism is growing exponentially in areas such as Juan ), Punta Cana, Bavaro, Ubero Alto and Miches.

The destination Cap Cana is proving particularly attractive: a closed residential and hotel community that has begun in recent months the construction of 1,270 rooms. The opening of the Hotel Secrets in December 2016 and the announcement of Hyatt for the construction of two hotels with 750 rooms are a sign of the thrust with which this idyllic destination has returned.

2015 hurricane season

The 2015 Atlantic hurricane season is a current event in the annual tropical cyclone season in the northern hemisphere. The season officially began on June 1, 2015, and will end on November 30, 2015. These dates historically describe the period each year when most tropical cyclones form in the Atlantic basin and are adopted by convention. However, the formation of tropical cyclones is possible at any time of the year.

A strong tropical low exited the coast of Africa, and under favorable conditions became Tropical Depression Four on August 18. The depression was quickly upgraded into Tropical Storm Danny.  Danny has strengthened into the first hurricane of the 2015 Atlantic hurricane season.

Hurricane Danny was located about 1,030 miles east of the Windward Islands in the eastern Atlantic Ocean as of 5 p.m. EDT Thursday.  Maximum sustained winds are now 80 mph with higher gusts.  Some additional strengthening is possible as Danny moves west-northwest over the next several days. It will be until early next week before Danny reaches the longitude of the Lesser Antilles.  Danny is then expected to weaken in the eastern Caribbean Sea.

To prepare for a hurricane, you should take the following measures:

  • To begin preparing, you should build an emergency kit and make a family communications plan.
  • Know your surroundings.
  • Learn the elevation level of your property and whether the land is flood-prone. This will help you know how your property will be affected when storm surge or tidal flooding are forecasted.
  • Identify levees and dams in your area and determine whether they pose a hazard to you.
  • Learn community hurricane evacuation routes and how to find higher ground. Determine where you would go and how you would get there if you needed to evacuate.
  • Make plans to secure your property:
  • Cover all of your home’s windows. Permanent storm shutters offer the best protection for windows. A second option is to board up windows with 5/8” exterior grade or marine plywood, cut to fit and ready to install. Another year-round option would be installation of laminated glass with impact-resistant glazing. Tape does not prevent windows from breaking.
  • Install straps or additional clips to securely fasten your roof to the frame structure. This will reduce roof damage.
  • Be sure trees and shrubs around your home are well trimmed so they are more wind resistant.
  • Clear loose and clogged rain gutters and downspouts.
  • Reinforce your garage doors; if wind enters a garage it can cause dangerous and expensive structural damage.
  • Plan to bring in all outdoor furniture, decorations, garbage cans and anything else that is not tied down.
  • Determine how and where to secure your boat.
  • Install a generator for emergencies.
  • If in a high-rise building, when high winds are present, be prepared to take shelter on a lower floor because wind conditions increase with height, and in a small interior room without windows. When flooding may be occuring, be prepared to take shelter on a floor safely above the flooding and wave effects.
  • Consider building a safe room.

Hurricanes cause heavy rains that can cause extensive flood damage in coastal and inland areas. Everyone is at risk and should consider flood insurance protection.

If a hurricane is likely in your area, you should:

  • Listen to the radio or TV for information.
  • Secure your home, close storm shutters and secure outdoor objects or bring them indoors.
  • Turn off utilities if instructed to do so. Otherwise, turn the refrigerator thermostat to its coldest setting and keep its doors closed.
  • Turn off propane tanks
  • Avoid using the phone, except for serious emergencies.
  • Moor your boat if time permits.
  • Ensure a supply of water for sanitary purpose such as cleaning and flushing toilets. Fill the bathtub and other larger containers with water.
  • Find out how to keep food safe during and after and emergency.

You should evacuate under the following conditions:

If you are directed by local authorities to do so. Be sure to follow their instructions.

  • If you live in a mobile home or temporary structure – such shelter are particularly hazardous during hurricane no matter how well fastened to the ground.
  • If you live in a high-rise building – hurricane winds are stronger at higher elevations.
  • If you live on the coast, on a floodplain, near a river, or on an island waterway.

Read more about evacuating yourself and your family. If you are unable to evacuate, go to your wind-safe room. If you do not have one, follow these guidelines:

  • Stay indoors during the hurricane and away from windows and glass doors.
  • Close all interior doors – secure and brace external doors.
  • Keep curtains and blinds closed. Do not be fooled if there is a lull; it could be the eye of the storm – winds will pick up again.
  • Take refuge in a small interior room, closet or hallway on the lowest level.
  • Lie on the floor under a table or another sturdy object.
  • Avoid elevators.

  • Continue listening to a NOAA Weather Radio or the local news for the latest updates.
  • Stay alert for extended rainfall and subsequent flooding even after the hurricane or tropical storm has ended.
  • If you have become separated from your family, use your family communications plan
  • If you evacuated, return home only when officials say it is safe.
  • Drive only if necessary and avoid flooded roads and washed out bridges. Stay off the streets. If you must go out watch for fallen objects; downed electrical wires; and weakened walls, bridges, roads, and sidewalks.
  • Keep away from loose or dangling power lines and report them immediately to the power company.
  • Walk carefully around the outside your home and check for loose power lines, gas leaks and structural damage before entering.
  • Stay out of any building if you smell gas, floodwaters remain around the building or your home was damaged by fire and the authorities have not declared it safe.
  • Inspect your home for damage. Take pictures of damage, both of the building and its contents, for insurance purposes. If you have any doubts about safety, have your residence inspected by a qualified building inspector or structural engineer before entering.
  • Use battery-powered flashlights in the dark. Do NOT use candles. Note: The flashlight should be turned on outside before entering – the battery may produce a spark that could ignite leaking gas, if present.
  • Watch your pets closely and keep them under your direct control. Watch out for wild animals, especially poisonous snakes. Use a stick to poke through debris.
  • Avoid drinking or preparing food with tap water until you are sure it’s not contaminated.
  • Check refrigerated food for spoilage. If in doubt, throw it out.
  • Wear protective clothing and be cautious when cleaning up to avoid injury.
  • Use the telephone only for emergency calls.
  • NEVER use a generator inside homes, garages, crawlspaces, sheds, or similar areas, even when using fans or opening doors and windows for ventilation. Deadly levels of carbon monoxide can quickly build up in these areas and can linger for hours, even after the generator has shut off.

We also recommend to be aware of national communications delivered by the emergency and disaster agencies of the Dominican Republic and the ONAMET (National Meteorology Agency), as well as CCTel’s Channel 10.

Emergency numbers in Cap Cana are:

  • Fire Fighters:          809.688.5587 (Ext. 4068)
  • Medical Center:     809.688.5587 (Ext.3710)
  • Security:                 809.688.5587

Vacation is all about having fun summer camp stories

Summer may be a time to relax, but tell that to kids who are bouncing off the walls or shrieking “I’m bored” every five minutes. Many parents today spent their childhood riding their bikes and playing games like baseball or dodgeball on side streets and in neighbors’ backyards. Many children today spend much of their time indoors, playing games on their tablets or watching television. Lots of unstructured outdoor play is critical to the health of children, though many have experienced a marked decline in the time they spend in free play.

Kelowha is unique because of the magic feeling we all share, the friendships that form, and the incredible memories that remain. In this special place you can be yourself, free to run, laugh, play, and discover.

Where else can you participate in the Traditional Color Run and Spartan Race, do zip lining, enjoy the wonders of the Cap Cana beaches, hike the Scape terrains, compete in your favorite sports, explore experiments and your creative flow, fish at sundown, complete impossible missions, pretend play to be a pirate, a cowboy, and monster, eat smores and sing songs by the bonfire, and make the best memories of a lifetime?

The positive effects of camp on youth development can be amazing. Our program is designed to be a BLAST for our campers, but we also focus on developing skills and values in our campers. We create a loving community in which every camper can excel and grow through a list of fantastic activities and with the guidance of excellent teachers and counselors. Our campers develop more confidence achieving goals, more resilience and openness to try new things, taking initiative, and solving problems.
